“Being a Sunday night, lets keep this church-like. But in this church we dance!” Florence Welsh announces as she takes to the stage of the packed out Brighton Centre. Sporting a flowing gown, nothing about this performance lacks elegance, from the draped banners falling from the ceiling to the way Welsh moves across the stage.

The evening not only celebrates High as Hope, the forth studio album from Florence + The Machine, but also celebrates togetherness as Welsh politely askes the crowd to embrace each other. Welsh’s charming vocals project across the venue intertwining with the bands intricate arrangement, creating a gospel vibe throughout the performance. ‘Hunger’ is an early crowd pleaser but it’s quieter songs, such as ‘The End of Love’ that really highlight the uniqueness of the band. This euphoric experience ends with anthem ‘Shake It Out’ uniting the crowd under shimmering confetti. While the Brighton Centre is by no means a small venue, Welsh and the eight-piece successfully create an organic environment that breaks the boundaries between audience and performers, with a feeling of intimacy that no one can deny.
