" We're Orchards. The fruit, not the flower..."
Brighton- based Alt-Pop band Orchards graced the Theatre Stage early, but this did not stop them drawing in a crowd and making a buzz.
Lead singer Lucy Evers' dreamy vocals captivated the audience, packed right to the back of the small room. Arguably one of the most performative bands of the day, they bounced around the stage making the most of the room they had, even taking a stand on the edge of the stage ( The movements of guitarist Sam Rushton being particularly impressive). The energetic vibe and grasping guitar in which Orchards delicately pull off is what takes ahold of you as you watch them play. Stand-out song for me is Honey, which, focusing on the EP's theme of love and lust, provides such a playful melody accompanied by punchy lyrics that are carefully meshed together to create an abstract performance.
What's great about an Orchards performance is the bright backdrop they create. Further assisted by the engagement they have with the crowd, thanking them, they bring each member of the audience together in unison through the happiness of the blend of genres that create an Orchards song.
